Big News: CAMP SASK ARTS Secures Major Grant!

We are thrilled to announce that CAMP SASK ARTS has been awarded a significant grant from the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund! Over the next four years, we will receive $175,000 annually, thanks to the generous support from the Hudson's Bay Foundation and their initiative, Oshki Wupoowane — The Blanket Fund.

Our co-founder, Holly Yuzicapi, expressed the emotional impact of this news: "This work is not just work. It's meaningful, spiritual work." This funding will help us expand our efforts in northern communities, bringing transformative arts programming to more people.

CAMP SASK ARTS focuses on music, arts, and culture through various initiatives, including artist residences, mentorships, music lessons, and trauma-informed training courses. Our goal is to empower local community members, ensuring that arts programs continue to thrive long after our direct involvement.

Our approach is different—we collaborate closely with local artists and community members, building confidence and leadership skills so they can sustain and grow these programs independently. As Eliza Doyle, our co-founder, puts it, "We're not bringing music or arts to a community. We're nurturing what's already there."

With this new funding, we can bring our vision to life much sooner. It’s an incredible opportunity to strengthen community connections and support the next generation of Indigenous leaders through the arts.

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey!
